SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES FOR JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT
On 12 May 2025, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) published notices in the media calling for nominations of interested persons to fill vacancies in the following courts – Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, Land Court, Labour Court and various Divisions of the High Court. The closing date for submission of nominations was 12 June 2025.

UPDATE 8 OCTOBER:
After deliberations, the JSC will advise President Ramaphosa to consider two of the following for appointment to the Constitutional Court:
- Judge Nambitha Dambuza
- Adv Alan Dodson SC
- Judge Glenn Goosen
- Judge Kate Savage
- Judge Ashton Schippers
In terms of section 174(4) of the Constitution, the President must consult the Chief Justice and leaders of political parties in Parliament before making the appointment.
The vacancy has been withdrawn pending the finalisation of the new judicial establishment of the Land Court in terms of the Land Court Act 6 of 2023.
The following candidates have been shortlisted to be interviewed on 6 – 17 October 2025.

Update 8 October:
Following deliberations, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided that it will not recommend any candidate for appointment for the vacancy at the Supreme Court of Appeal.
Update 10 October 2025
Following deliberations on the Labour Court interviews, the Judicial Service Commission has resolved to advise the President to appoint Ms S Harvey to the position in the Labour Court.
Update 13 October
After the deliberations, the JSC has resolved, by majority vote, not to appoint any of the three candidates interviewed for the Deputy Judge President of the Eastern Cape High Court division. The JSC will readvertise the vacancy.

Update 10 October:
Following deliberations on the interviews for the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court, the Judicial Service Commission has resolved to advise the President to appoint Advocate K F Phahlamohlaka.
The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on 6 – 17 October 2025 and will be notified of the venue, date and time of the interviews in due course.
