SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES FOR JUDICIAL POSITIONS – OCTOBER 2021

On 04 June 2021 the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) published notices in the media calling for nominations of interested persons to fill vacancies in the various Superior Courts. The closing date for submission of nominations was set for 05 July 2021. On 11 August 2021, the Screening Committee of the JSC met and compiled a shortlist of candidates to be interviewed at its October sitting scheduled for 04 – 08 October 2021. The names of the candidates who were interviewed by the JSC at its October 2021 sitting are as follows:

 

Competition Appeal Court (Two vacancies)

  1. Judge Denise Carol Fisher
  2. Judge Norman Michael Manoim

 

After interviewing 2 candidates for 2 positions on the Competition Appeal Court, the JSC has selected 1 candidate as nominee for the position.
The other position will remain unfilled.

Electoral Court, Judge Member (Two vacancies)

Judge Jamela Joseph Mhlambi
Judge Lebogang Temperance Modiba

 

After interviewing 2 candidates for 2 Judge Member vacancies on the Electoral Court, the JSC has selected the following candidate as a nominee for the position.
The second post will remain unfulfilled.

Electoral Court, Non-Judge Member (Two vacancies)

After interviewing 4 candidates for 2 Non-Judge Member vacancies on the Electoral Court, the JSC has selected the following candidates for the position:

  2. Prof Moses Retselisitsoe Phooko

Eastern Cape Division of the High Court, Mthatha (One vacancy)

[JSC Interviews] Following deliberations, the JSC has recommended the following candidate for the vacancies at the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court:

 

Free State Division of the High Court (One vacancy)

The JSC decided not to shortlist any candidate for this position.

Gauteng Division of the High Court for secondment to the Land Claims Court (Two vacancies)

After interviewing 1 candidate for the Gauteng Division of the High court for secondment to the Land Claims Court, the JSC has selected 1 candidate as nominee for the position. The other position will remain unfilled.
