JSC CANDIDATES OCTOBER 2022
On 17 May 2022 the JSC published adverts calling for nominations to fill 24 vacancies at various Superior Courts across South Africa, including the Supreme Court of Appeal and several judicial leadership positions. The deadline for nominations was 17 June 2022.
The JSC’s shortlisting committee met on 26 July 2022 and compiled a shortlist of 42 candidates to be interviewed in October.
The JSC published the shortlist on 28 July 2022, simultaneously calling for comments and objections on the candidates by 29 August 2022.
The names of the candidates shortlisted to be interviewed in October 2022 are as follows:
The JSC considered four nominations received for this vacancy and one of the candidates was not shortlisted. The JSC, in terms of Section 174(4) of the Constitution, must prepare a list of nominees with three names more than the number of appointments to be made. As a result, the JSC could not proceed to shortlist three candidates for one vacancy.
