SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES FOR JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT – May 2024 SCA Interviews
On Tuesday, 20 February 2024, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) published a notice inviting nominations of interested persons to fill two vacancies available at the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA). A further notice was published on 28 February 2024 advising that there is an additional vacancy in the SCA and that interviews will be held to recommend three (3) vacancies instead of two (2) vacancies as previously stated. The closing date for submission of nominations was 20 March 2024.

After deliberations, the JSC has decided to appoint the following candidates as justices of the Supreme Court of Appeal:

The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on 20 May 2024 and will be notified of the venue and time of the interviews in due course. Law bodies and any persons who wish to comment on the suitability or otherwise of

Comments in respect of each candidate must be submitted on a separate page in both pdf and word format, and must reach the Secretariat by no later than 03 May 2024. Comments received after 03 May 2024 will not be considered.

JSC Interviews for the Chief Justice and Deputy President of the SCA
Following the SCA interviews on 20 May the JSC will then interview candidates for the positions of Chief Justice and Deputy President of the SCA on 21 May.

After deliberations the Judicial Service Commission will advise the President that Justice Mandisa Maya is suitable for appointment as Chief Justice.
After deliberations the Judicial Service Commission will advise the President that Justice Dumisani Zondi is suitable for appointment as Deputy President of the Supreme Court of Appeal.
