The Chief Justice congratulates Justice Maya on her appointment as Deputy Chief Justice

The Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa, Chief Justice R M M Zondo, welcomes the appointment of Justice Mandisa Maya, the President of the Supreme Court of Appeal, as Deputy Chief Justice of the country and congratulates her on her appointment. The Chief Justice called Justice Maya this morning to congratulate her.

This follows today’s announcement by the Presidency that President Ramaphosa has appointed Justice Maya as the Deputy Chief Justice with effect from 01 September 2022.

The Chief Justice said that this appointment signals a significant milestone in the history of South Africa and of the Judiciary in this country as Justice Maya is the first Judge who is a woman to be appointed as Deputy Chief Justice of our country.

The Chief Justice also pointed out that he looks forward to welcoming Justice Maya at the Constitutional Court on 01 September 2022 and to working with her in her new role as Deputy Chief Justice.
