Candidate Bio:
Ms Lindwe Vukeya has been a Regional Magistrate at Middelburg Regional Court and has been involved in extensive training of other magistrates through the Family Law Forum and the Provincial Child Justice Forum. Her expertise in criminal law stems from her long career engaging with the criminal justice system as a prosecutor and as a magistrate. She has however also handled civil matters and in her questionnaire confirms that she is comfortable in adjudicating civil matters.
One of her significant contributions to law and justice in South Africa is her work in the Barberton Sub-Cluster re-demarcation Committee, for which she was appointed as its Chair. She collected evidence from the communities affected by boundaries proclaimed before 1994 and prepared a report that shed light on the Re-Demarcation Board so as to enable them to facilitate the re-demarcation process. She is also a member of an organization that aids young girls who cannot afford sanitary towels and other necessities.
Ms Vukeya holds a B Proc Degree (1996) from the University of the North (Limpopo). She was first appointed as an acting judge in 2016 in Gauteng High Court (Pretoria) and has also acted in the Mpumalanga High Court.
