Interview Synopsis
On paper, it was patently clear that magistrate Fezeka Monakali did not have the required experience to be appointed to the high court Bench – just yet. So why she was shortlisted for the interview process is something that suggests either a latent sadism underlying the Judicial Service Commission’s sifting committee or a profligate approach to the commission’s budget.
When asked by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng what had “fuelled your confidence” to avail herself for judicial appointment having not acted at the high court, Monakali said she had court experience having worked as a prosecutor and as a district magistrate. She said she had gleaned experience in writing judgments when acting in the regional magistrates court.
