Candidate bio:

Ms Janine Snyders is an attorney of the High Court of South Africa, but also a Notary and a Conveyancer. She has also sat as a board member of the Northern Cape Consumer Protection Court, which she now chairs. The alumnus of the University of the Free State (LLB and LLM) believes “as a female of colour, she has inspired women from the younger generation to strive for and attain high standards in their work”. Born in 1980, she will be one of the youngest candidates appearing before the JSC in the April 2021 sitting.

Ms Synders served as an acting judge in the Northern Cape Division during 2017. In D v Minister of Correctional Services she upheld the rights of a sentenced prisoner when she held that a decision to move the prisoner to a different correctional facility was procedurally and substantively unfair, as the prisoner had not been given a chance to be heard or adequately informed of this decision.

Snyders is currently a director at Engelsman & Magabane Attorneys, where she specialises in high court litigation, labour work, and mining work.
